Solutions

Branding
A branding achievement as well as a Web design triumph, 415's solution for Mondavi successfully communicates the essence of the overall Robert Mondavi brand as well as the unique sensibilities of each of the core brands: Robert Mondavi Winery, Robert Mondavi Coastal Private Selection, Woodbridge, and La Famiglia di Robert Mondavi.

– Conducted extensive interviews with winemakers and branding specialists at each winery, as well as direct communication with Robert Mondavi himself
– Used interview insights to craft a look and feel that expressed both the unity of the Mondavi portfolio and the unique aspects of each individual label
– Developed functionality that further communicates the defining principles behind the overarching Mondavi brand

User Testing
In addition to spending considerable time researching the wine and food industry and analyzing the Web sites of Robert Mondavi's competition, 415 conducted user testing in concert with a third-party research firm to ensure that the new site design engaged consumers and inspired them to expand their knowledge of wine.

– Identified how users think about wine, how they search for wine, and what features would encourage repeat visits
– Developed site features in response to user feedback, such as the Winefinder, which enables visitors to match their interests, tastes, and budget with a Robert Mondavi wine
– Confirmed that the site's overall naming conventions and language were engaging and easy to understand

Content
As part of their commitment to the culinary arts and their belief that fine wine and food are enhanced when enjoyed together, Robert Mondavi wanted to deliver content and functionality that demystified and increased the appreciation of wine. According to 415's user testing, consumers craved more detailed, customized information on Robert Mondavi's wines and wineries. 415 combined these two sentiments with expansive, easy-to-understand content and features with an epicurean and educational focus.

– Integrated wine, food and entertainment throughout the site
– Created sources of edification and enjoyment with features including the Winefinder, a glossary of wine-related terms, and continuously updated articles by Robert Mondavi experts on wine-related topics
– Developed Food & Wine section that allows visitors to search for recipes and wine pairings based on a variety of criteria

User Interface/Information Architecture
The threat of redundancy and confusion were the two biggest challenges faced by 415 when developing the Robert Mondavi site. The nature of this project dictated that certain content elements needed to be shared across the entire site while others were relevant only to a specific winery. Distinguishing the “umbrella' site content and the individual winery content was achieved through 415's architecture solution.

– Differentiated between 'umbrella' and 'unique' content -- information of relevance to all visitors, such as company information and wine facts, were placed in the overarching architecture, while details of a specific winery, including history and wine offerings, were located within the appropriate winery site's architecture
– Devised graphic design that differentiated individual wineries from the umbrella site, while uniformity in navigation, content offering, and look and feel throughout helped avoid confusion
– Developed a global navigation system that allowed users to move throughout the site quickly and easily and enabled them to understand their location in relation to the rest of the site
