Overview

The Library of Congress is the nation's largest library and oldest federal cultural institution. The Library's collection of more than 120 million items includes not only books but also manuscripts, music, maps, audio and video tapes, film, disks, photographs, and prints.

The Library hoped to use their rich and varied collection of primary source materials relating to American history to attract a younger audience, offer a fun way to learn about history, and provide a gateway to other Library of Congress sites. After reviewing responses to their RFP, the Library selected 415 based on proven design expertise and success, as well as their appreciation of 415's no-nonsense style and willingness to suggest potentially effective alternatives to proposal details.
